* About Program:

Youth Hostels Association of India is organizing the National Himalayan Winter Trekking Expedition in the Dalhousie region of Western Himalayas for the last 23 years. On a popular demand from our members we are once again organizing this expedition from the 10th of December-2016 to the 6th of January-2017. Dalhousie is the very beautiful Hill Station in Himachal Pradesh. Spectacular snow-covered Dhauladhar Mountains are also visible from this enchanting town. Come and see what lies beyond the hills, peep into unseen and have a feel of snow. You are welcome to join this trail on any day during the scheduled period.

* How to reach the base camp: Nearest Railway Stations is Pathankot. Bus Service: Regular bus services from Pathankot, Delhi & other parts of Punjab. Pathankot/Chakkibank to Banikhet & Dalhousie is about 80km (3-4hr journey by Bus). Roadways buses & Private Taxis are available.

* Day Wise schedule:

# Day 1: Reporting at Youth Hostel Dalhousie

# Day 2: Acclimatization and orientation

# Day 3: Base camp Trek to Kalatop camp - 8km/ 5hr

# Day4: Kalatop camp to Khajjiar camp- 11km/ 7hr

# Day 5: Khajjiar camp to Mangla camp- 11km/ 6hr

# Day 6: After breakfast transfer by bus from Mangla camp to Dalhousie Youth Hostel & Check out after lunch.

* Who can Participate:

The minimum age for a member to join the program is 15 years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate"

* How to Participate:

Members desirous of joining this program may apply online through our website www.yhaindia.org, or, by the prescribed registration form duly supported by a Medical Certificate, along with a DD amount 5195/-(Rs.50 postage charges) of requisite amount in favor of “Youth Hostels Association of India”, payable at New Delhi. Members can also apply through the State Branch or Local Unit of YHAI.

N.B: Booking is based on first come first serve. Without admit card do not claim your registration as confirmed.

YHAI membership card or Receipt of payment for membership fees and Admit card, original Medical Certificate & two Passport size photographs is must to enter into the Base Camp. Without these documents participating members will not be allowed at Base Camp.

 

 

* Cancellation Policy:

In case you are unable to join this trek, you will get a refund of Rs.2450/- provided when your request is received through online link (CLICK HERE& offline booking should be come through the post directly at the National Office-New Delhi, on or before 20th November 2017. After this date no refund application will be considered. Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.

Note- Refund will be processed post completion of the program within 30 to 45 working days.

* Safety & Security:

Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of this program routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.

* How To Reach: Youth hostel Dalhousie is beside from Dalhousie bus stand on walking distance. Nearest Railway Station: Pathankot Cantt. on main Delhi/ Howrah- Jammu section of Northern Railways. Bus Service: Regular bus service from Pathankot, Delhi and other parts of Punjab. Pathankot Cantt. to Dalhousie is about 86km (3-4hr journey by bus). Roadways buses and private taxis are available.

* What participants should along: Rucksack (if You have one), Woolens, Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife, Needle, Thread, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, Rain sheet,  Medicines which you normally use at home, Camera with extra batteries. Jungle Boots/ Snow Shoes/ Trekking Boots are must for walking on snow.

 

* Notice to Participants:

 

1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.

2. Deviation from the set route of the program is not permitted. If participants may wish to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the program and checking out.

3. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.

4. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.

5. Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited. 

 

* Special Casual leave: The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.

 

* Certificates:

Participants, who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.

* Adventure Scholarship for Physically Challenged:

YHAI announces 50 adventure scholarships of Rs 2350/- (50%) each to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates. 

* Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship: YHAI announces Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

 

* Off the Beaten Track Siddharth Scholarship:

To provide underpreviledged young men and women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities / programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
