Roop Kund(15893 feet) is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas. It lies in the lap of MT. Trishul and MT. Nanda ghunti. Roop kund is locally known as mystery and Skeleton Lake, and is famous for the hundreds of human skeletons found at the edge of the lake.
It is a high altitude glacier lake (Tarn) in the Chamoli district, Uttrakhand State of India. The lake is a popular trekking destination.
Many theories and opinions exist, from purely spiritual to scientific ones, attempting to explain the existence of these skeletons, which date back to 9th century A.D. (1200 years old). Because of the human remains, the lake has been called skeleton lake in recent times.
