The Youth Hostels Association of India, J&K State Branch is organizing the National Heritage Trek Expedition  through some of the most scenic and beautiful areas of  Jammu & Kashmir. This is 07 days Trekking programme  is being organized in the  historical and mythological important location where it is believed that Bhgwan Shiv and mata parvati got married amidst  green meadows and pastures; lofty mountains; thick deodar, cheer forests; clear natural water springs;. The camp is a unique experience, providing  trekkers with a glimpse of magnificent natural and built heritage of the state and study of flora and fauna of area.  The trek covered the areas with Udhampur as the Base Camp, Karimchi temples of heritage importance. First night halt Udhampur Base camp and 2nd night  halt at  Sankari Devta in Pancheri Forests with rich flora and fauna on way to 3rd  night halt at Katti, 4th  night halt at Sanasar a beautiful meadow with a lake in the centre and perched with Fur forests on all sides is also a hub for Para-droppers. Passing through Natha Top with barren hills and high velocity winds giving a varied experience to the trekkers, 5th night at the world famous tourist resort of Patnitop in thick Deodar forest; 6th night halt at Mantalai where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parwati were married via Gauri Kund where Goddess Parwati used to worship Lord Shiva and Sudh Mahadev where the lord Shiva killed the Demon who was chasing Goddess Parwati. 7th day morning the trekkers tranfered by bus to base camp Udhampur and disperse after evaluation and receiving certificates. These programmes used to be very educative with knowledge about the heritage of the state at Karimchi temples by the experts of Archeological Survey of India, about the wild life by the experts of the Wild Life department at Pancheri, about the flora & fauna and the medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs available in the locality, about the universe and its systems through video show by the faculty members and scholars of the Geology department of the University of Jammu. The video presentation has been prepared under the guidance of  Sh. Mohd. Shafi Pandit I. A. S, National President of the Youth Hostels Association of India which includes the inputs provided by famous tree talk crusader Dr. OP Sharma Vidiarthi IFS . Apart from this personality development programmes were also conducted for the trekkers.
*Route and schedule-
#Day1- Reporting at base camp Udhampur.
#Day2-  Via Krimchi by bus to Sankri Dvta-Pancheri.
#Day3-13Kms Trek from Pancheri to Katti 
#Day4- 12 Kms Trek from Katti  to Sanasar
#Day5- 14 Kms Trek from Sansar to Patnitop via Nathatop
#Day6- 14 Kms trek from Patnitop to Mantalai
#Day7- Transfer by Bus to Udhampur base camp and disperse after evaluation and certificate disbursement.

* Who can Participate: 
The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 60 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate".
Special Allowance Cases:
On the special case if the person is medically fit and a regular trekker than he can be allowed in offline mode (decision will be final only on management discretion and seat availability). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond on rs 100/- bond paper from his respective state and has to submit the same along with his Registration form.
The base camp is 60 Kms from Jammu. While coming from Jammu by road buses are available at General Bus Stand Jammu City for Udhampur Bus stand. 
While coming by Train- Direct trains are available up to Udhampur. 
While coming by air- The nearest Air Port is Jammu air port. From Jammu airport taxis are available.
*HOW TO JOIN: Members desirous of joining the programme may apply on a prescribed Registration Form duly supported by a Medical certificate, which is available, free of cost, with the Units / State Branches of YHAI and National Office. It can also be downloaded from our website
Those who are interested to participate should send registration form duly filled along with Bank Draft of Rs 5300/- and DD should be prepared in the name of “Secretary, Youth Hostels Association of India J&K State Branch payable at  Jammu and sent to Secretary, YHAI J&K State Branch, Hotel Tara Palace,  Sant Market, Chand Nagar, Jammu-180016. . 
*CANCELLATION RULES: Persons who are unable to join the trek after paying the participation fee, will get a refund of 50% provided their request is received directly in the National office / State Branch office at least 30 days in advance from the date of their reporting.
Pucca and tented accommodation is available.
*FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES: simple vegetarian food and clean drinking water.
Trekkers should bring cotton shirts, cotton pants, bed sheet, hunter shoe, sun-cap, wind sheeter, two woolen jersey, two pairs of socks, torch, water bottle, lunch box, mug, plate, tumbler, toilet set, cold cream, and first aid kit including essential medicines. Mug, plate, tumbler and spoon are must
*SAFETY & SECURITY: From safety point of view much preparation has gone into the planning of the trek route. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the areas to check all details. While preparing trek care has been taken to ensure safety of the participants, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
*ADDITIONAL NOTES: Prohibitions:
SMOKING, USE OF ALCOHOL AND NARCOTICS OF ANY DESCRIPTION ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING THE COURSE OF THE PROGRAMME. Violators will not be allowed further participation in the programme and are liable to be discharged immediately on the spot. Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join any other activity, they may do so after finishing the trek and checking out, at their own risk and responsibility.
Special Casual Leave
The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India has the approval for special casual leave for the employees of the Government of India for the period of the trek, subject to maximum of 30 days in a calendar year vide office order NO: 28016/89-Estt(A), of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Deptt. Of Personnel & Training) Government of India and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has also authorized special casual leave on the same pattern under SRO 171 of 2004.

YHAI, expects the participants to maintain discipline at all times. This will include adherence to the programme schedule in letter and spirit. This being an environment friendly programme, participants are requested not to litter or spoil the trail in any way. They are expected to carry the same with them to deposit at the camp
