NATIONAL HIMALAYAN NATURE STUDY-CUM-TREKKING EXPEDITION 2010

The Nature Study Camp include bird-watching ,star gazing (identification of satellites )rock climbing ,trekking and first aid training .You may also photograph the panoramic views of surrounding areas .Avail this opportunity of staying in the camps set amidst majestic snow peaks of the Himalayas and meet the youngsters from various parts of the country .At night sit around camp fire after dinner for a cultural get-together with a sense of love for nature and outdoor activity aiming at promoting national integration .

Fees:
1970/- for a package of eight enjoyable days in the pollution –free atmosphere of the Himalayas .This includes simple vegetarian food ,accommodation ,equipments ,training ,trek to snow line ,forest entry and insurance ..Payment of fees by Demand Draft only in favour of National Secretary, YHAI at New Delhi .You can also apply online .Visit us at www yhaindia.org. Note 1: YHAI trekking expeditions are not subsidized by any Government agencies or donors.
Note 2: Development fund will be utilized for the infrastructural improvement of the campsites and equipment.
Imp: YHAI Group Insurance cover is for accidental death or permanent disability only. You are advised to take insurance cover for your journey and other related matter.
Eligibility:
The programme is open to students of age group 10 to 15 years only junior members are allowed to participate .Overage/underage students will not be considered in any case.
Duration:
The programme begins on 29th April 2010 with Youth Hostel Dobhi (Tel.No:01902-240028) as Base Camp .Each day from 29th April to 29th May 2010 a group of 50 students will be received at the Base Camp .You can report on any of these dates after getting your seats confirmed .The duration of the camp of each group is 7 night and 8 days .One Teachers/escort accompanying a group of 10 student will be complimentary in terms of participation fee on first come first served basis.

PROGRAMME SCHEDULE & ROUTE
FROM 29TH ARPIL 2010 TO 29TH MAY 2010
DAY 01: Report at Base Camp Youth Hostel Dobhi .Ht 4500 ft.
DAY 02: Acclimatization, rock climbing, river crossing
DAY 03: Base Camp to Katrai by Bus (4 kms).Trek to Kharogi Youth Hostel (7 kms) Ht .6000 ft .4hrs.
DAY 04: Trek to Naya Tapru Youth Hostel (6 kms) Ht. 8200 ft 5hrs.
DAY 05: Trek to Chanderkhani Base Ht. 10000 ft. and back to Naya Tapru Youth Hostel (12 kms) 6 hrs
DAY 06: Trek to Nathan Seri Youth Hostel (14 kms) Ht. 6000 ft
DAY 07: Trek to Base Camp, Youth Hostel Dobhi (10 kms) 3 hrs .Valedictory Function.
DAY 08: Group breaks, after breakfast.
What should you bring along with you:
Rucksack (if u have one),cotton shirts, cotton pants, woolen jersey or jacket, woolen muffler or monkey cap, light raincoat, DMS or hunters shoes ,two pair of socks, water bottle, lunch box, enamelled or steel mug or tumbler, plate spoon, water purifying tablets, pen knife, needles, thread, spare buttons, goggles(other than blue glasses), cold cream or Vaseline , soap, toilet paper, towel, medicines (which you normally used at home).
How to Reach DOBHI:
Cradled amidst apple orchards and terraced rice fields, Dhobi is directly connected with Delhi (527kms), Chandigarh (226kms), Shimla (250kms) and Pathankot (299kms) by road .Regular bus services are available .The nearest rail heads for the Dobhi are Joginder Nagar and Pathankot but Chandigarh is the best bet .The nearest airport is Bhuntar .Youth Hostel Dobhi is 14 kms from Kullu on Kullu –Manali Highway.
Safety
Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trek routes for your safety .Our field staff and the experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details .while every care has been taken to ensure safety ,the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident .illness and such other unforeseen eventualities .smoking ,use of alcohols and narcotics of any description are strictly prohibited during the course of programme .Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted .If participants desire to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the trek and the checking out.
Certificate: Participants, who successfully completed the track and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificate.
PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION
We are sure that while trekking you must have across the different views which have a deep impression on your mind and brain .For keeping a permanent record of such a lasting impressions, you would like to capture them in your camera .We felicitate such delightful scenes .You may send your colour prints (not slides) in size 8”* 10”. The themes of photographic entries are:
- Nature (Wildlife, Birds and Flowers):
- Camping
- Trekking
Please do not forget to give details of the location and date of photograph, your Name, Group No .and address on the reverse of the photograph (preferably type on a paper and paste).Perhaps you may be the lucky one to get a cash and award and/or a certificate of Merit .YHAI has the right to retain /use even the entries which are not selected for awards with due acknowledge/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31st July 2010.
