MIZORAM TREKKING & CAVING EXPEDITION 2007

Youth Hostels Association of India is organising MIZORAM TREKKING & CAVING EXPEDITION 2008 in Mizoram and in seven sisters of North East region.

Mizoram a land of the blue mountain, lies in the southernmost outpost of the North Eastern States. Neighbours Manipur, Assam and Tripura bound this tranquil little state, but a part of it slips down between Myanmar and Bangladesh .

Journey to Mizoram, India's most remote State is a strenuous but rewarding one. The infinite variety of its geographic setting, its topography, its varied flora and fauna and avian life, the history of its people and the variety of its ethnic communities and their rich heritage of ancient traditions and lifestyles, its festivals and crafts make it a trekking wonderland that's just begging to be discovered afresh.

 

PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME

 

The purpose of the programme is to create in the minds of the youth a sense of love for the countryside, by way of offering them a new trekking route and thereby providing them an outdoor recreational activity, with the aim of promoting the National Integration and bringing them together from all parts of the country.

 

REPORTING DATES

 

 

You may choose to report on any date from 1st November to 10th November 2008.

 

 

AGE

 

 

Minimum age to participate in this expedition is 15 years and the age restriction will be strictly adhered to.

 

 

FEES

 

Rs. 2500/- per head, which will cover the stay at reporting camp Laungmaul Youth Hostel, Aizawl, tented accommodation at higher camps, simple nutritious vegetarian food, transportation from bus stand to Base Camp and back and last camp to Base Camp, guidance, equipment and insurance. You will, however, have to bear to and fro travel expenses from your hometown to reporting camp Aizawl .

 

PERSONAL ITEMS TO BE BROUGHT BY YOU FOR THE TREK

 

Rucksack (if you have one), cotton shirts, cotton pants, woolen jersey, woolen muffler or monkey cap, hunter shoes, torch with spare batteries, water bottle, lunch box, enameled or steel mug or tumbler, plate, spoon, water purifying tablets, pen knife, needle, thread, spare buttons, goggles, cold cream or Vaseline, soap, toilet paper, towel, medicines which you normally use at home, camera and film rolls (optional).

 

SHEDULE

ROUTE

Day 1 : Reporting at Luangmual Youth Hostel, Aizawl.
Day 2 : Sight seeing at Aizawl.
Day 3 : Trek to  Vaipuanpho (13 Kms.).

Day 4 : Trek to Ailawng. (10 Kms).
Day 5 : Trek to Dialdawk (15 Kms).
Day 6 : Trek to Nghalchawm (9 Kms).
Day 7 : Trek to Luangmual via Sihhmui (15 Kms).

Day 8 : Camp breaks after breakfast.

 

HOW TO REACH

 

By Air- Aizawl is connected to Kolkata (1hr 45 min) by Air through Indian Airlines, Air Deccan flights.
By Rail - Nearest Railhead is Silchar in Assam (184 km away) which is connected to Guwahati by rail.
By Road - NH 54 connects Aizawl with the rest of the country through Silchar. Busses and taxis are available from Silchar to Aizawl (6-8 hrs). Aizawl is also accessible by road from Shillong (450km) and Guwahati (506km).

Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online on this website or on a prescribed Registration Form duly supported by a Medical Certificate, which is available free of cost from Units/State Branches and National Office. You can also download from the link given below:

You can print these forms and send dully filled forms on the address given below in this page along with Demand Draft of Participation Fee drawn in favour of "National Secretary, Y.H.A. of India" and payable at New Delhi.

CANCELLATIONS

 

In case you are unable to join the trek after paying the participation fee, you will get a refund of Rs.1250/- provided your request is received directly in the National Office at least 7 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will, however, be admissible if such notice is short of 7 days.

 

SAFETY

 

Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trekking expedition route for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.

Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If Participants desire to join any other activity they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the trek and checking out.

Special Casual Leave

The Trekking Expeditions organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Dept. of Personnel and Training), Government of India, vide office order No. 28016/89- Estt(A), dated 25th October, 1989. Participants working for Central Government, can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in a calendar year.

 

CERTIFICATES

 

Participants, who successfully complete the expedition and abide by the discipline of the programme, will be awarded certificates.

 

ADVENTURE SCHOLARSHIPS

 

YHAI announces 50 adventure scholarships of Rs 1250/- each to physically challenged youth including deaf and dumb for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office, YHAI on a plain paper supported by relevant certificates.

 Programme schedule and routes are subject to change without prior Notice.

Please note that this is an environment friendly trek. Do not litter any wrappers or spoil the trail in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way please carry the same with you for disposing at the Base Camp.

 

WARNING

 

Burning of wood during Camp Fire is strictly prohibited. IMPORT OF ANY BIO-NON DEGRADABLE MATERIAL IN MIZORAM IS AN

 

OFFENCE.

 

Smoking, use of alcohols and narcotics of any description are strictly prohibited during the course of programme.
