Centre for the Study of Youth Hostelling for Peace & International Understanding in Mysore

In the Year 2000 after Dr. Harish K. Saxena was elected as President of International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), he presented a proposal to the International Board that the Youth Hostels all over the world should promote “Peace and International Understanding”. The Federation board accepted the proposal and IYHF singed the Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO in 2003. UNESCO adopted this idea and agreed to open 11 Learning Centres of Peace worldwide in those area where there in an conflict after signing MoU with IYHF.

YHAI conducted many programmes in India under this slogan on the 60th Anniversary of YHAI & Centenary Celebration of Hostelling International in the year 2009. At that time Dr. Saxena proposed that YHA of India should continue to work for Youth Hostelling for Peace & International Understanding in the coming years. This proposal was crystalised on 7th December’2013 when a full detailed presentation of the concept paper was given to all the National Council members in the meeting.

 

RESOLUTION BY THE NATIONAL COUNCIL, YHAI  FOR THE PROJECT “CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF YOUTH HOSTELLING FOR PEACE AND INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING” PASSED UNANIMOUSLY ON 8TH DECEMBER’2013

 “Resolved that the project ‘Centre for the Study of Youth Hostelling for Peace and International Understanding’ at Mysore, as explained is considered and unanimously approved by the members  of the National Council, YHAI after detailed deliberations and discussions on the project.

Further resolved that the financial cost as estimated by the Architect is at present  amounted to Rs.10 Crores and will increase as per actual during the construction is hereby approved unanimously.

Further, it is resolved unanimously that the Committee formed for this project as mentioned is hereby authorized to take all necessary steps for implementation of this noble project.

Further, resolved unanimously by the members of the National Council that the members will contribute to this noble project in any form as needed”.  

 This study centre is proposed on 23200 sq. ft. (2154.95 sq. mts.) land at Mysore which is already in the possession of YHAI through Mysore Unit , YHAI to have the following facilities

  1. An interactive Library for providing knowledge base for youngsters on the concept of “Youth Hostelling for Peace & International Understanding”.
  2.  The Centre will promote short term Certification Course on Youth Hostelling for Peace & International Understanding.
  3. The Centre will promote adventure activities with short term courses on adventure, nature study, tourism, international peace, communal harmony etc.
  4. Short films will be screened on all the above topics for visitors and students.
  5. Hostel facility will be provided in this centre for youth to stay during such programmes and for those who visit Karnataka for tourism purposes.
  6. Will have facilities like indoor and outdoor games to promote physical fitness.
