Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) launches ‘International Youth Hostel’ at Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) - Srigandakavalu Housing Colony
BMRCL and YHAI have today on the 16th of January, 2013 signed an agreement to establish a International Youth Hostel at the Namma Metro Housing colony near Kotigepalaya bus stop for the benefit of ravellers visiting Bengaluru.
National Chairman of the YHAI, Mr S Venkat Narayanan and Company Secretary of BMRCL, Mr Anil B Shedbal signed the agreement on behalf of the organisations for utilisation of 26 dwelling units.
Speaking on the Occasion Managing Director, BMRCL Mr N Sivasailam stated that taking the contribution of the YHAI in promoting International and National Tourism, this project is being started. He further informed that during his travel abroad he was very much impressed by the facilities provided for travellers at nominal tariff by the Youth Hostel world over and hoped that YHAI will soon start this hostel as it will be
helpful to the back packers and budget travellers visiting Bengaluru. He added that BMRCL was working with partners in several areas, but the partnership with YHAI was one which was most valued by him and that YHAI was an organisatio with a huge reputation Dr.Harish Saxena, National President of YHAI & International President of the IYHF has stated that the international hostelling community were happy that this facility is being provided at Bangalore which is an important destination for travellers to India. He also thanked MD, BMRCL for his initiative.
National Chairman of the YHAI Mr S Venkat Narayanan stated that their plan is to open the Bangalore International Youth Hostel within 30 days. He further informed that Youth Hostels Association of India is having more than one Lakh Life Members and 50,000 Annual members spread across the country with 240 Units in 22 States. YHAI has 80 Licensee Youth Hostels in India for the benefit of its members. Annually more than 10000 members participate in the various adventure programmes organised by YHAI which promote National Integration & Communal Harmony. It also undertakes environmental and environment friendly programmes.
YHAI is affiliated to the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF/Hostelling International (HI) a non-governmental, non-profit organization representing 70 Member Associations and 9 Associate Organizations all over the world. HI works closely with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). HI has also been identified as the sixth largest provider of travel accommodation in the world and is one of the world’s largest youth membership organizations.
YHAI National Vice President K.Purushotham and Karnataka State President Lakshminarayana along with other officers of BMRCL connected with the project were also present on the occasion.
