* About Program:
After successfully completing 50 years in Himalayan Trekking, Youth Hostels Association of India once again brings the National Himalayan Trekking cum Training Expedition Chanderkani Pass 2023. Chanderkhani, located at a height of 12,190 ft. provides an awesome and breathtaking view of some of the most beautiful snow-clad mountain peaks like Tiger Thatch, Ali Ratni, Inderasan and Priyadarshini Range. Chanderkhani is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Shivalik Range.
MANDATORY: Trekking Medical Certificate will be compulsory at the time of reporting only (with 30 days of validity ) duly signed by a registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS / MD only) along with his registration no. and stamp.
*Trek Grading: Easy to Moderate
These treks generally have around 04 to 06 hours of trekking per day and can involve a reasonable amount of ascent and descent touching an altitude of around 10,000-12,000 feet. This grade is suitable for someone who is in good health and who is a regular walker. Suitable for anyone who walks on weekends or so, no previous trekking experience is required for this grade.
*Range: Kullu Valley, Kullu District of HP
*Flora and Fauna:
Because of its complex geography and its great variations in altitude, Kullu is home to an enormous range of species, which span the subtropical to the alpine. The common trees in the Kullu hills belong to the conifer species (deodar, pine, spruce, fir). Several species of medicinal plants like Hath Panja (Dactylorhiza hatageria) and Brahma Kamal (Saussurea obvallata) grow luxuriously in the valley. the Himalayan brown bear and the Himalayan Tahr. The Western Tragopan (the state bird of Himachal Pradesh) and the Monal pheasant are the prominent birds species found in the region.
*Highest Altitude Gain: 10692 feet

* Day Wise schedule:
# Day 1: Reporting at YHAI Base Camp at 14 Miles, near Span Resort, opposite Baba Deluxe Dhaba, and opposite Indian Oil Petrol Pump
Regular bus services are available for Kullu from Delhi,Chandigarh & Punjab. Every bus from Kullu to Manali is passed from 15 Miles The nearest Railway Stations are Ambala & Chandigarh & the nearest Airport is Bhuntar.
# Day 2: Orientation, acclimatization/ Training and Kit Inspection
The participants will be briefed about the trek route, important do’s and don’ts, brief description about the acute mountain sickness and will go for an acclimatization walk.
# Day 3: Trek to Sola Tanki (7930FT)
The participants will be transported from Base camp to Chansari village (6591 ft) by bus, then trek to Bijlimahadev (7913ft) distance 4km. After lunch at Bijli Mahadev they will move to Solatanki distance 7 km (7930ft) approx 4 hours trek. Solatanki hire camp is surrounded by dense forest of Deodar tree. The camp site is located in very peaceful area and offer a panoramic view of Kullu valley. One can also have the sighting of unique birds here.
# Day 4: Trek to Mountinag (9187FT)
The next day trek is of 7km and gain altitude of 1257FT and took approx 5hrs. Mountinag name is after the local deity of that area. The route passes through Bringta Top (7273ft) which is the lunch point of the trek. The camp is in open area with a small temple of Mountinag Devta. The place offer a panoramic view Beas valley. The blowing cold breeze gives a soothing effect to the tired trekkers.
# Day 5: Trek to Ubla Thach (9793FT)
The trek is relatively relaxing with many ups and downs. The altitudinal gain is 606Ft and the distance of 7kms with trekking time of approx 4-5hrs. The route offer a panoramic view of Beas Valley on the one side and Parvati Valley on the other and passes through woodland and grazing grounds. One can see the pastoralized life style of local people who use to bring their life stocks for grazing. The camp is located on the grazing ground with water source nearby.
# Day 6: Trek to Dohra Nala (10692FT)
This route with the altitudinal gain of 899Ft and the distance of 8 km takes approx 6hrs trekking. The route passes through Futta Saur a beautiful natural meadow with a broken pond. After having lunch there the trek will move on to Dohra Nala, the camp situated at the middle of two small streams passing by.
# Day 7: Trek to Naya Tapru (9970FT)
This is the longest and most enchanting trek of this route with undulating terrain. The altitudinal loss of 722ft and the distance is 14km which take approx 7hrs of trekking. This route will pass through the Chandrakhani Pass (12190ft). The route provide the picturesque view of Parvati River and village area across it. One can slide on the snow and enjoy it to the fullest.
# Day 8: Nauya Tapru to Naggar via Rumsu Village and transfer to Base Camp by Bus. Certificate Distribution & Recreation Activity.
The last trek of this route is 7km long and takes approx 4 hours with less gradient. The trek ends up at Naggar village. Here participants can visit Naggar Castle and Roerich art gallery Naggar and from there the participants will be transferred to Base Camp by bus.
At base camp, the closing ceremony will be conducted in which certificates will be distributed to those participants who have successfully completed the trek. As a part of the cultural integration, there will be a small cultural program from participants only in which the older group will share their experience to the newer group.
# Day 9: Check out after breakfast.

* Who can Participate:
The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 60 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered in any case. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate".
Special Allowance Cases:
On the special case if the person is medically fit and a regular trekker than he can be allowed in offline mode (decision will be final only on management discretion and seat availability). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond on rs 100/- bond paper from his respective state and has to submit the same along with his Registration form.
* How to Participate:
Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requisite program fee along with online booking amount i.e. Rs.7500/- per head. We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on www.yhaindia.org for online payments. After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated.
Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.
Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may also apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a DD of requisite amount of Rs.7500/-per head in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. All Offline Booking confirmations are subject to the availability of seats. The National Office will send the Admit Card along with a confirmation letter to the participant at the address mentioned in the "Trekking Registration Form". Members can also apply through our YHAI Units or State Branches in their respective area.
N.B: Without admit card and Medical fitness Certificate do not claim your registration as confirmed.
* Notice to Participant:
1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.
2. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.
3. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.
4. Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited.
* Food: Simple, nutritious vegetarian meals will be provided.
* Accommodation Facilities: Tented accommodation will be provided on sharing bases.
* Safety & Security:
Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trekking routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
*What participants should along:
Rucksack (if You have one), Woolens, Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Lunch box, Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife, Needle, Thread, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, Rain sheet, Medicines (As per your personal requirement, which you regularly use at home and Crepe Bandage 4in*1, Micropore tape 1/2inch*1, Bandaids, Cough lozenges/ Kanthil or other, Vicks Vaporub, Coldarin, Clotrimazole cream and powder, Paracetamol*10 Mupirocin cream, Diclofenac gel, Lopamide*10, Azithromycin and Electral), Camera with extra batteries.
*Certificates:
Participants, who successfully complete the trekking and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.
*Notice to Participants:
YHAI membership card or Receipt of payment for membership fees and Admit card, original Medical Certificate & two Passport size photographs is must to enter into the Base Camp. Without these documents participating members will not be allowed at Base Camp.
*Special Casual leave:
The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.
*Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship for underprivileged Girls: YHAI announced Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Girls whose family income is less than Rs.100000/- p.a. can avail this scholarship. Applicant has to submit the salary certificate of their parents. In case of Business, she has to submit their income on an affidavit. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
*Off the Beaten Siddharth Scholarship for underprivileged Young Men & Women: YHAI announced 50% Off the Beaten Track Siddharth Scholarship of the program fee to provide underprivileged Young Men & Women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities/ programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Underprivileged Young Men & Women whose family income is less than Rs. 250000/- p.a can avail this scholarship by applying to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document/ certificates through their respective State Branch.
Cancellation Method:
1) Participants booked online will do online cancellation minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
2) Participants booked offline will inform their cancellation by email to trekking@yhaindia.org minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
Only cancellation done as per above method will be eligible for credit shell/refund. The below cancellation policy will however not be applicable if the request reaches short of 10 days prior to the reporting date and shall not be eligible for credit shell/refund.
Cancellation Policy:
The Participant, who cancels the programme by serving request minimum 10 days prior to his/her reporting date as per above terms and conditions of "Cancellation Method", is eligible to get the credit shell or refund as follows:
(a) Credit Shell:-
1) In case you are unable to join the programme due to any reason, you will get a 100% Credit Shell of the participation fees which will be valid till December 2024.
2) If the next programme opted by you is cheaper, you may use the balance amount in any of the Trek till Dec 2024.
3) If the next opted programme is costlier, the trekker has to pay the differential amount.
4) Program opted using the Credit Shell cannot be cancelled again.
5) You may transfer your seat to your family members and friends also. The seats thus transferred cannot be retransferred or cancelled.
6) The credit shell can only be used in booking of adventure programs organised by YHAI. The credit shell will not be used in taking memberships and hostel bookings.
OR
(b) Refund:-
Participants can opt for a 50% refund instead of 100% credit shell if they wish to. The conditions of “Cancellation Method” will be the same as mentioned above. The participant has to inform either offline or online minimum 10 days prior to his reporting date. If the request reaches short of 10 days prior to the reporting date the refund request shall not be considered.
Note: If any program will be cancelled due to Natural Calamity / Government Restriction / Cancellation of Permission or any other reasons, YHAI will be accountable only for program fees and not other expenses which participants have made for joining the program. In these circumstances the decision for participation fees will be considered by the YHAI and will be bound to all.
