BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
Residing amidst the bountiful wonders of nature in the Tamil Nadu State of India MADURAI RAMESHWARAM & KANYAKUMARI not only provide a spiritual experience to the visitors through its world famous temples but also it is capable to enthralling ones's senses with its mesmerizing landscapes and natural beauty. So get ready to explore a different experience all together in these sacred and scenic environs.
DAY WISE SCHEDULE:
Day 1: Reporting at Madurai. acclimatization and orientation and visit to Meenakshi Amman Temple
Day 2: Madurai Local Sight Seeing, Thirumalai Nayakar Mahatma, Gandhi Museum, Teppakulam after that proceeding to Rameshwaram
Day 3: Rameshwaram temple visit - Pamban Bridge-APJ Abdulkalam Memorial, Ramar Patham
Day 4: Rameshwaram to Dhanuskodi Trek and back to Rameshwaram
Day 5: Rameshwaram to Kanyakumari, visit to Thirparappu Falls and trek to Sunset Point, visit to Thiruvalluvar Statue
Day 6: Kanyakumari Local Sightseeing -Vivenkandar rock boating and return to Madurai
Day 7: Check out after Breakfast
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 99 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered in any case. Members desirous of joining this programme.
HOW TO REACH THE BASE CAMP:
BY AIR
Madurai airport is just 10 km away from the main city and it is well connected to all major cities of India. Nearest international airport is Chennai. There are daily flights from Chennai, Trichy, Bengaluru and Coimbatore. Taxis are available from the airport to the city.
BY TRAIN
Direct trains are available from many cities of India. From Chennai it takes seven hours to reach Madurai and trains run daily. The fastest train on the route is the Vaigai Express, a super-fast day train between Chennai Egmore and Madurai.
BY ROAD
The city of Madurai is well connected by all southern parts of India. The bus terminus is at a distance of 6kms from the city. One can book AC as well as Non AC buses as per the need. Good connectivity leads to a good frequency of transport facilities for the travelers. So distances should not be a concern.

FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES:
Simple, Nutritious & Veg sumptuous meals.
Participants have to report at the Madurai Base camp before 2 pm. Evening is dedicated for orientation and visit to Meenakshi Amman temple which is one of the oldest and important temple in India. It has a great mythological and historical significance.
Today we visit the most sought after places in Madurai such as Thirumalai Nayakkar palace, built during the Nayaka dynasty in the 17th century. Gandhi memorial museum which is one of the five Gandhi museums in the country, the memorial contains plenty of photographs, paintings, sculptures and manuscripts. Teppakulam temple has a large pond and it is mainly used for devotional festivals.
Rameshwaram has many iconic sites such as Pamban brigde which was India’s first Sea bridge connecting Rameshwaram to the mainland India. We visit the APJ Abdul kalam memorial built as a tribute for him, the memorial consists of pictures,paintings and also miniatures of missiles, it has become a popular tourist destination. The day ends by visiting the Ramar Patham temple, the temple is believed to have footprints of Lord Ram.
Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town on the southern tip of Pamban islands. Most of the route will be covered in a vehicle and the best part is the walk on beach for approx 7-9 km. The place remains uninhabited till this day. The serene environment , gushing of wind, crystal blue water and sand beneath your feet gives an experience like no other.
As we head towards kanyakumari which is the southernmost town in mainland India also referred as Land’s end. It is a popular destination is India , It’s famous for its unique ocean sunrise and sunset. A visit to Thirparappu waterfalls is also one of the major attraction in Kanyakumari. A 133ft statue of a Tamil poet and philosopher known as Thiruvalluvar stands tall in the ocean giving a exquisite sunset view.
Vivekananda rock memorial is a popular tourist monument in kanyakumari . It can be reached by ferry and the ride towards the monument is a surreal experience. It is believed that this is where Vivekananda attained enlightenment . Post the sightseeing we return back to madurai for an overnight stay.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING ALONG:
Cotton Shirts, Cotton Pants, bed sheet, shoes, sun-cap, raincoat, two pairs of socks, water bottle, lunch box, mug, plate, tumbler, toilet set, cream and a first-aid kit.
SAFETY & SECURITY:
Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.
2. Stay other than YHAI accommodation is not allowed for the entire duration of the programme.
3. This is an environment friendly program. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.
4. For the prevention of COVID 19, participants should follow the social distancing rules.
CANCELLATION RULES:

Seat once booked may not be re-scheduled or transferred.
Any unforeseen event/ strike or natural calamity/ unfit medical condition will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.
Refund may be given after completion of the programs 30 to 45 working days.
