BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

First we visit Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary:

Starting from Guwahati at 4 am, on Day 2, we shall first visit Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, located around 50 KMS from Guwahati, known for its highest density of one-horned Rhinoceros in the world. We shall go for a elephant ride in the park with security guards deep inside the core areas. Popularly known as “mini-Kaziranga”, Pobitora was declared a sanctuary in 1987. Spread over an area of only 38 sq. Km, Pobitora may be small, but is a heavenly segment of raw wilderness and greenery. Wild Boars, Barking - Deer and Water Buffalos can easily be spotted grazing the field’s right next to the mighty rhinos. It is an Important Bird Area and home for more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. This we shall complete by 11 AM, have breakfast and proceed to Nameri National Park.

From Pobitora we go to The Nameri National Park:

The Nameri National Park about 220 KMS away from Guwahati, which is a national park in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in the Sonitpur District of AssamIndia, of 200 sq. KMs, area bordering Arunachal Pradesh and it is also the core area of Nameri Tiger Reserve. One can enjoy safe and thrilling rubber raft trips in the Jia Bhoroli River in the south-western boundary, with expert rafting guides in a 15-17 km stretch of the river and has become one of the most popular attractions. This we shall do after lunch.

Trackings are conducted by the Forest Wildlife Department, to explore this fascinating habitat of Nameri on foot, which is a wonderful experience, vastly different from standard Jeep and Elephant safaris. While trekking, armed forest guards will guide us along the nature trails through thick jungles and dry riverbeds, in the morning time next day (Day 3). The camp facilities are open throughout the year though river rafting and trekking are not permitted during the rainy season.

Early morning we can walk to the river front and take the canoes to cross over the river to the core area on the other side of the river. Start trekking with naturalists and forest authorities and accompanied by forest guard, which offers the visitors, sites for bird watching. There is silence all around except the sound of your own footfalls and of course, the chirping of the birds. There are a few basic watch towers inside from where you may see few big mammals. After lunch, in the afternoon we throw rubber dinghies on the roof rack of our vehicles and drive off about 25 km upstream of the river. As the boatmen inflate the rafts we can put on our life vests and we are ready to float! There are mild rapids on the river which you begin to enjoy after a while. We float down for about 2 hours looking for bird and wild animal life along the way. Disembark and walk/ drive back 2 KM to camp/ lodge.

Nameri National Park is famous for ornithologists and wildlife adventure tourist to explore more than 300 birds that have unique specialty. Nameri is the best sighting spot of the endangered bird White - winged Duck (Asarcornis scutulata), which is also the state bird of Assam. Ibisbill and Merganser are the two species of migratory birds that visit the park every winter. There are 374 (Three hundred seventy four) species of birds recorded from this park in 2005 by Mr. Maan Barua and Mr. Pankaj Sharma. It is an ideal habitat for a host of animals including the elephants, tigerleopardHog Deersambardhole (the Asiatic wild dog), Gaurclouded leopardleopard catBarking Deer , wild boarsloth bearMarbled CatHimalayan black bearcapped langur and Indian giant squirrel.

In the evening we start off to Kaziranga about 3 hours journey from Nameri.

VISIT KAZIRANGA:

In the evening we go to Kaziranga National Park from Nameri National Park about 100 KMs away, which covers an area of 378 Sq KM, with approximately 51.14 Sq KMs lost to erosion in recent years. The sanctuary, which hosts two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceroses, is a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. According to the census held in March 2018, the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park is 2,413. The park is a home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild Water buffalo and swamp deer. Kaziranga is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife for conservation of avifaunal species. On Day 4, we plan an elephant Safari in the early morning and a Jeep Safari in the evening.  We also plan to attend an Educational Program by Kaziranga University during our stay at Kaziranga & we also plan to visit a Orchid garden and an evening cultural program depending upon the time available.
