BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

AT THE START WE VISIT POBITORA: We shall first visit Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, located around 50 Kms  from  Guwahati, known for its highest density of one-horned Rhinoceros in the world. Popularly known as “mini-Kaziranga”, Pobitora was declared a sanctuary in 1987. Spread over an area of only 38 sq. Km, Pobitora may be small, but is a heavenly segment of raw wilderness and greenery. Wild Boars, Barking- Deer and Water Buffalos can easily be spotted grazing the field’s right next to the mighty rhinos. It is an important Bird Area and home for more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles

VISIT KAZIRANGA:

From Pobitora we go to Kaziranga National Park about 185 Kms, which covers an area of 378 km2, with approximately 51.14 km2 lost to erosion in recent years. The sanctuary, which hosts two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceroses, is a World Heritage Site. According to the census held in March 2018, the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park is 2,413. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Kaziranga is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife for conservation of avifaunal species.

VISIT MAJULI:

Majuli approximately 150Kms from Kaziranga is a large river island in the Brahmaputra River and in 2016 it became the first island to be made a district in India. It had an area of 880 sq Kms at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 sq Kms as at 2014. It is necessary to take a ferry to Majuli. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam. Majuli is the main center of the Neo Vaishnavite ideology of eastern Assam.
